CFL Swapout - Change your Incandescent bulbs to CFLs

CFL bulbs save tons of energy and moneyHow many homeowners does it take to change a lightbulb?

Only one, but many of us don't.

Everyone knows that CFL lightbulbs save energy and money, but many of our homes are still filled with incandescent bulbs. CES offers a swap-out service where we will convert your lighting to CFLs in one fell swoop.

Incandescent light bulbs are not very efficient. Did you know that more than half the energy used by an incandescent light bulb provides heat, not light? CFL light bulbs are more efficient than incandescents. Compact florescent bulbs use about 65-75% less energy than standard bulbs to provide the same amount of light. An additional benefit of CFL bulbs is that they can last up to 10 times longer than regular bulbs.

Let's forget about the cost savings related to bulb replacement costs and look solely the energy efficiency savings of a typical home with twenty 100 watt light bulbs. Assuming each bulb is powered only three hours per day, over the course of a year the bulbs will burn 2,190 kWh of energy. At $.14 per kilowatt-hour, those lights will cost $306.60. Replacing those bulbs with 23 Watt CFL Bulbs will cost only $70.52 per year. This equates to a savings of $236.08 per year, or about $20 per month.

Most CFL bulbs are manufactured to last 10,000 hours. At three hours per day, we could expect to go over nine years with the same bulbs from the replacement in the above example. Over nine years, our savings would amplify to over $2,000 and that is assuming the cost of energy remains constant. Do you remember how much energy cost nine years ago?

We know that changing lightbulbs is something that everyhomeowner can do, but many of us have not yet made the change and are paying the price every month. Since we get our bulbs at a discount, using CES to swap out your bulbs is actually quite cost effective. The above example involving twenty 100 watt bulbs would only cost $200, which would be recouped within a year.
